TOWN STRUCTURE
The Town of Madison (the only incorporated town in Madison County) is governed by a mayor and a four-member council, all of whom shall be qualified voters of the Town and who are elected for a 4-year term from the Town at large. The Mayor presides over town council meetings and has a vote in the event of a tie, but no veto power; works with the council to pass ordinances; and represents the town at public events. The Town Administrator is appointed by the Town council and oversees the daily operations of the Town.
The Planning Commission is composed of five members who serve staggered 4-year terms. The Commission serves as an advisory board to the Council on matters relating to zoning and development of land/buildings and is responsible for drafting, reviewing, and updating the Town’s comprehensive plan.
